Story Podcasts for Kids

Telling great stories is at the heart of all podcasting so it is no surprise that Story podcasts for Kids is one of the major areas for podcasts for kids. In fact there is a dedicated Apple podcasts library for Story podcasts for kids which sits within the main Kids and Family podcasts section.

Best Story Podcasts for Kids

1. Stories Podcast. These are retellings of classic stories, based around folktales, legends and myths – Rapunzel, Princess and the Pea, Snow White, etc. The episodes are 10 – 20 minutes long. There are some series, some rebroadcasts and some one off episodes. Good for all ages.

2. History Storytime – for Kids. Sophie (age 7) and Ellie (age 5) tell the stories and have lots of funny sound effects. They have over 70 episodes including on Boudicca, Animals in History, Florence Nightingale, Cleopatra and more. Uniquely, it stars children themselves. Good for 5 – 10 year olds. There are also other podcasts like this in our history podcasts for kids section.

3. Fierce Girls. This is an Australian podcast and tells the true stories of amazing Australian women. They have a theme of fierce girls with guts and spirit. Unless you are Australian you won’t have heard of most of them but the title tells you a quite synopsis. They cover everyone from sports stars, to spies, to prime ministers and inventors. Good for tweens.

4. Circle Round. This is a stories podcast with a values feel. It tells traditional folktales from around the world such as the Fisherman’s Leftovers (Japan) and the Twin Monkeys (Tibet). There is usually some sort of morality message which comes through strongly around kindness or generosity.

5. Story Pirates. These stories are actually written by kids and reflect their eclectic imagination – “The boy who mailed himself to Australia” or “My mouth ran away”. But many of them are read by celebrities such as Clare Danes.
