History Podcasts for Kids

History has always been a rich area for adult podcasts so it will be no surprise to know that there are many History Podcasts for Kids. Some of these also feature in our top ten list of podcasts for kids, including History Storytime – for Kids and Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls. Many schools are increasingly integrating history podcasts into their home learning – as they are with their science and other educational podcasts.

Top Five History podcasts

  1. History Storytime – for Kids. This is our favourite Kids podcast and tops the list for History Podcasts for Kids. Sophie (age 7) and Ellie (age 5) tell the stories and have lots of funny sound effects. They have over 70 episodes including on Boudicca, Animals in History, Florence Nightingale, Cleopatra and more. Uniquely, it stars children themselves. As one of our favourite podcasts we have a lot more information about it on our dedicated History Storytime – for Kids page. Good for 5 – 10 year olds.

  2. Homeschool History. This BBC production was devised as a lockdown support for schools. It features Greg Jenner who presents the other BBC history podcasts tell bitesize history. It is fun and engaging with a quiz at the end. Episodes include Charles II and Mary Seacole They made two series only for each of the lockdowns. Good for 8 – 12 year olds.

  3. The Past and the Curious. This show tells untold stories with an American focus. Episodes include “Roller Skates and Atomic Power” and “Prairie Dogs and Animal Bands”. There are songs and a quiz. Episodes are longer than others around 30 minutes per episode. But the episodes are great fun. Good for 8 – 12 year olds.

  4. Bedtime History. This long running show sees the narrator tell stories of around 5 minutes each about key people or events in history. Episodes include Neil Armstrong and Charlemagne. The narrator’s voice is calming voice so it’s great for helping fall asleep to something interesting. Good for 4 – 7 year olds.

  5. Goodnight stories for Rebel Girls. This is a spin off of the best selling book of the same name. The podcast champions women from all parts of life. Episodes are ten minutes longs and are read by an famous woman telling stories of other famous women.
